Balloons

Only Mylar balloons are allowed at Children's Hospitals and Clinics. Latex balloons are not allowed because of the choking danger if balloons are chewed or swallowed by young children and because some children have latex allergies. We are sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your assistance with this safety issue.

Confidentiality

Children's staff are trained to respect the confidentiality of all patients by not discussing medical and family issues with other patients and families. We ask that you, also, respect the privacy of other patients and their families by not discussing their medical care with others. If there is a reason to discuss your child's care with someone outside your family, our staff will discuss the matter with you.

Health guidelines

The following are special circumstances that must be observed for the health and safety of all patients. If you have questions, please talk with your child's nurse or stop by the nurses' station before visiting.

  • Anyone who has not had chicken pox AND has had a known exposure in the past three weeks is not permitted to visit patients. If you have received the chicken pox vaccine in the last three weeks, see your child's nurse or stop by the nursing station before visiting.
  • Anyone who has symptoms of a contagious illness, such as a cough, cold, vomiting, diarrhea, cold sore or rash, should not visit patients.

Visiting guidelines

  • Visits from parents/guardians, brothers, sisters, and other close Family members play an important role in a child's recovery. At Children's Hospitals and Clinics, families are welcome at all times unless, because of the danger of spreading illness, visiting would pose a risk to patients.
  • Other visitors are also welcome, but the number of visitors or length of visits may be limited if the nurse, physician or parent believes it would be in the best health interest of the patient. If you would like help in limiting visits, please speak directly with your child's nurse.
  • Parents/guardians and grandparents may visit patients anytime. Other visitors, including children, may visit between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Visiting children are the responsibility of the parent. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult in all areas, including the play rooms
